“SEALAB IV”
Featured in The Pelagic Zone: Uncharted Waters from JayHenge Publishing
A deep-sea horror set in an underwater lab on the edge of the Pacific-Antarctic Trench
A fictional continuation of the real life SEALAB I, II, and III experiments crewed by U.S. Navy divers. This time, the habitat is larger, more advanced, and positioned in the Southern Ocean beside the Pacific-Antarctic Trench. Its purpose: to probe for contacts to better understand what may be alive in the crushing, frigid depths of the trench.
As a diver departs the base to check a sensor outage at the edge of the shelf, Kelly monitors the vitals readings from Davis’s pressure suit back on the command deck. Davis reports that the sensor appears to have been taken, not damaged. Then he reports that he has spotted something moving through the water. Something large.
Moments later, the unknown contact seizes him and starts dragging him toward the trench before communications are lost.
But what explains the loss of the other four crewmen aboard when help finally arrives?

And how many will be left alive when the curtain falls?

However, his efforts are interrupted when he spots a lone crow on the roof below the beacon room. As he stares at this land bird far from home, the local seabird colony begins attacking the station.
Forced out into the winter gale, the keeper must fight for his life as nature attacks from all sides, including above. In the process, he will discover what became of the former keeper and learn what drove the birds to this madness. But will he be able to stop their assault in time?
